Powerpoints in Captivate (kinda obvious, really)

Hello all,

Just a small entry about something which is not new in Captivate. But as, if I remember well, Adobe got this one wrong during the Ace exam (a question insinuating that either bullet-builds or links were not working after importing PPT into CP, while they both are), I’m posting this just in case.

When you import a PowerPoint slide which has a link on it as an animation into Captivate, the link does work. The only reason why it does not appear to work when importing PowerPoint slides using ‘advance on mouse click’ is because in this case Captivate places a click box over the entire slide. This click box will direct the user to the next slide when clicked. Delete it and you will have the ‘advance automatically’ import-version. Obviously you cannot place a click box over a link and expect the link to work, as you cannot click through a click box. So the link does work, it is only the click box Captivate places over it which blocks the link. There is a simple solution for this however:

Make sure the click box does not overlap the link. Duh, kinda obvious that one. Just use a Next-button directing you to the next slide on the bottom of your slide and delete the click box completely: problem solved. I personally prefer this method over placing a click box on the entire slide, as it is more obvious for users where they should click to continue.

Don’t be fooled by Captivate 4 which places the click box at the end of the slides timeline. When you initially click on the link it will work, as the click box is not on the stage yet. However when you click the link at the end of the slide, when the click box is on the slide, your link will not work.
